Why ChengrongTimes Has Not Pursued NSF Certification? We think SGS Testing Could Offer Better Value for Our Customers

Chengrong Factory may still be called one of the TOP 3 players in China’s inline ultrafiltration industry, but in reality, we have become the true hidden champion, because the other two former leaders have already left this demanding segment for easier and faster-return opportunities.

Several years ago, we began regularly sending our ultrafiltration filter cartridges to SGS—the world’s leading third-party testing and certification body—to verify whether our products meet the American NSF standards.

There is one thing that makes me proud is that all the ultrafiltration membrane cartridges tested by SGS have fully complied with NSF/ANSI 58-2023 standards.

These authoritative SGS test results reassure customers about the safety and quality of our UF membrane materials. More importantly, they also prove that our annual R&D investment of over 3 million RMB is a worthwhile long-term investment.

In the pipeline UF water filter industry, few manufacturers focus on R&D and quality as rigorously as we do. That is why our peers even claim that Chengrong “spends too much” on management and quality control, which they believe harms short-term efficiency.

Many peers follow the philosophy of “No bees, no honey”—refusing to invest without immediate returns.

In my view, this mindset hinders sustainable long-term development.

At Chengrong, we proactively invest in quality improvement. Even if returns are not immediate, such efforts strengthen our capabilities and lay a solid foundation for the factory’s future.

Some people have questioned ChengrongTimes whole house water filtration system for meeting NSF-58 standards through SGS testing instead of obtaining official NSF certification, implying that our test reports are merely a marketing tactic rather than credible proof of product quality.

I strongly disagree.

Official NSF certification can cost hundreds of thousands of RMB.

For ChengrongTimes, we do not believe it is responsible to spend such a large amount of money merely for a certification label, especially when SGS third-party testing according to NSF standards can already verify the material safety of ChengrongTimes whole house water filters.

Those huge certification costs would ultimately be transferred to end consumers.

We would rather invest in better materials, stricter manufacturing, and more transparent third-party testing than ask our customers to pay extra for a label.

Although ChengrongTimes ultrafiltration water filters do not carry official NSF certification, we regularly submit our products to SGS for third-party testing, with testing conducted according to the relevant requirements of NSF/ANSI 58-2023.

For us, this is a more rational and responsible approach — both for our brand and for our customers.

Instead of asking customers to pay extra for a certification label, we believe it is more meaningful to provide credible, independent test evidence that directly reflects product safety and material quality.

SGS testing is authoritative, independent, and difficult to dispute.

The results show the real safety performance of our ultrafiltration membrane cartridges.

Both our PVDF reinforced ultrafiltration membranes and PVC alloy ultrafiltration membranes have passed SGS testing according to NSF/ANSI 58-2023.

Our complete ultrafiltration systems have also passed SGS testing for three consecutive years and comply with the EU RoHS environmental directive. In an industry where many claims remain unsupported, test results of this level are rare.

This is exactly where ChengrongTimes’ confidence comes from:

not from empty marketing words, but from transparent third-party evidence.
